Up, Up & Away! The REMAX Balloon Takes Flight Over Mauston

Last night was one of those perfect Central Wisconsin summer nights—the weather cooperated, the sky was beautiful, and the REMAX RealPros team got to experience something pretty incredible at the Juneau County Fair in Mauston.

The official REMAX Hot Air Balloon made its 2026 debut—and we got to help bring it to life!

The evening started with our entire REMAX RealPros crew helping unload the basket from the official REMAX balloon truck. Our pilots, Ken and Kay with WindDancers out of Waukesha, quickly put us to work and showed us how this enormous balloon goes from a bag on the ground to floating above the fairgrounds.

And yes... it really does start out in a bag.

We pulled the balloon onto the ballfield and stretched it out across the grass. Two people held open the bottom while a large fan began blowing regular outside air into the balloon.

Slowly, this massive piece of fabric began taking shape.

Before the heat was added and the balloon stood upright, Sally Luehman, owner of REMAX RealPros, got the chance to run inside and capture a 360-degree video.

Her first thought?

It felt exactly like first grade gym class when everyone ran underneath the giant parachute.

Only this parachute was about to fly.

Once the balloon had enough air inside, Ken climbed into the basket—which was still lying on its side—and fired up the burners.

And for anyone wondering: Nope, there’s no helium involved! LOL.

The burners shot flames and hot air into the balloon, and suddenly everything started happening.

The balloon rose.

The basket turned upright.

And this enormous red, white and blue REMAX balloon began climbing into the beautiful 7 p.m. Mauston sky.

By then, a large crowd had gathered around the ballfield. Kids, adults and families stood watching, many seeing a hot air balloon up close for the very first time. You could see the amazement on their faces as it became fully inflated.

It really was spectacular.

Then came the best part.

The REMAX RealPros team invited everyone to line up for FREE tethered hot air balloon rides. Two or three people at a time climbed into the basket and floated above the fairgrounds while the balloon remained safely tethered below.

At almost the exact same time, the Juneau County Fair Rodeo was getting underway. We could hear the announcer getting the crowd fired up from across the fairgrounds—and we have a feeling everyone sitting in those rodeo stands had a pretty amazing view of the REMAX balloon rising behind the action.

For our team, this was about much more than putting our logo in the sky.

It was about bringing something fun and unexpected to our community. It was watching kids look up in amazement. It was seeing adults pull out their phones because they had never been this close to a hot air balloon before.

And it was our whole REMAX RealPros team working together to make it happen.

We sell real estate here. We own a business here. We raise our families here. And nights like this are a pretty good reminder of why we love being part of Mauston, Juneau County and Central Wisconsin.

Thank you to the Juneau County Fair, Ken and Kay from WindDancers, the official REMAX Hot Air Balloon team, everyone from REMAX RealPros who jumped in to help, and every person who came out to watch or take a ride.

What a night, Mauston.

And seeing that REMAX balloon floating above our hometown?

That was pretty hard to beat.
